After three years, rain fury and floods have returned to haunt Tamil Nadu. The tropical cyclone activity in the northern Indian Ocean (the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea) is yet another glaring example of Climate Change that the world is witnessing. Around 600 families have taken refuge in the relief camps of Chennai. This project aims to provide flood relief to them in the form of ration kits, clothes, and utensils.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are witnessing high-intensity floods due to the incessant rains as a result of cyclonic activity. The heavy rains swelled many rivers across the state. Roads are swept away, houses are damaged and trees are uprooted. Several villages are cut off from mainland infrastructure and cities are flooded. At least 4 people have perished and many are missing. This project will directly impact 750 families in 10 slum areas of Chennai, who have been shifted to the relief camp.
Voice Trust aims to provide aid to 750 families in the form of dry rations, new clothes, sanitary and baby napkins, water drums, food, and stay needs for one month and will assist in securing clean water in the relief camps. In a bid to rehabilitate people affected by flooding, we will buy equipment for the workers. School-going children will be provided assistance to continue their studies until the situation is under control.
The project will provide nutrition, health, and livelihood support to 750 families. This will have an overall impact on the lives of over 3000 individuals affected by the climate catastrophe in the lower-income, areas of Otteri, Elephant Gate- Kalyanapuram, VOC Nagar, Kannikapuram, Kasthurbai Colony, SM Nagar, Kennedy Nagar/Nehru Nagar, Kalyanapuram, Semmathaman Colony, Perambur and Korukkupet.
