Asavari, arrived at the Urja hostel we support, dizzy, anemic, and struggling with her pregnancy. She had fled her abusive husband, who would emotionally manipulate her. Her mother died when she was very young, and soon after, both her siblings died due to health conditions, leaving her with little support in her life. As she had little guidance or influence, she married young, wanting to seek stability and comfort in her husband.
After many years of experiencing abuse and paranoia, she decided to leave her marriage. Luckily, she found Urja hostel, where she could recover, be treated for her anemia, and have a safe space for her to give birth. Also, she didn’t know how old she was, this was something that she very much wanted to find out- something perhaps many of us take for granted. With the aid of the legal team, they found out her age- she was 17.
She is now based in a parent-child support hostel, where she is receiving counselling to help her find the direction in which she wants to take her life. Her child is having medical care, funded by Urja and she is finally in a settled environment where she can nurture both her child and herself.
Thank you for your support, so women like Asavari can feel safe.
