Anaya*, a 22 year-old from Mumbai, has faced a myriad of social, economic, and emotional challenges throughout her life. Growing up in child care institutions, she found herself without shelter or a safe space.
However Anaya’s story took a hopeful turn when she was referred to Urja, a Karuna supported women's shelter, where she found respite and the safety she was looking for.
A thorough medical check-up revealed that Anaya had been suffering from Tuberculosis and severe malnourishment. Urja’s holistic support included comprehensive healthcare, access to nutritional supplements and regular psychosocial counselling which helped Anaya regain her strength and built coping mechanisms to manage her mental health.
Determined to carve out a better future, she committed herself to recovery, conscientiously following her medication regimen and receiving additional nutrition support.
This newfound passion of healthcare led her towards nursing and midwifery.
With Urja’s guidance, she pursued her nursing course with dedication and excelled quickly, eventually leading to a part-time job opportunity. As Anaya strives for financial independence through her job and continues her nursing training, her journey stands as a testament to her resilience and the importance of the support Urja works so hard to provide for so many women on a yearly basis.
Thank you for your vital support.
