A new chapter for Ishita

By John Sparks | CEO

Thank you for helping children that are orphaned or living in extreme poverty to overcome adversity. Your gift enables them to go to school and receive a quality education. If needed, they receive help to ensure their most basic needs for food and shelter are being met. Many of these children come from poor families or have no parents at all. Living in extreme poverty is such a struggle, so an education often seems impossible.

With your support to Help an orphan in Indian receive an Education, you can give a child a better future.  Allow me to tell you about Ishita.

Ishita’s mother works in a Red Light District in Mumbai. Growing up there meant she would likely end up in the same profession.  The environment shapes a child’s worldview.  Her mother did not want her to follow in her profession so she admitted her in our Shelter home.

However, her “father” wanted her at home.  He came one day to withdraw her from the program.  Since he was listed on the admission document this was his right according to the law.

The house parent asked him to spend a couple hours with Ishita in the home before leaving.  He agreed and sat in the front of the house observing.  He could see that even though she had been there just a short time, she had already become obedient, healthy and was learning to speak English.  An interesting thing happened; he saw that the best thing for Ishita was to stay in the Shelter, so he made a surprising decision to leave her there, but “only for some time.”

Last month Ishita’s father died, a sudden fatal sickness.  It was a huge shock and her heart was very sad, but she knows, that she is surrounded by those who love and care for her and that she has an opportunity to succeed where she is today.  You are part of her success.

I visited the Children’s home recently where I met Ishita and was impressed by her. I thought you might be interested in her story.

When you give through Help an orphan in Indian receive an Education you're making a big impact on the lives of children yearning for a better life.

Sincerely,

John Sparks
