Dear Supporter,
In November 2013 the SSPCA received a very frail female dog and her six young puppies. The dogs had been found living in the grounds of a school in the capital Victoria, where they had been scavenging for food before being spotted by a member of staff.
They were delivered to the SSPCA who agreed to temporarily look after them and try and fine them a new home despite being very short of space. They soon found homes for the puppies, but the mother dog proved to be more difficult, as she was extremely thin and vary timid around humans.
Then one day Abi March, a dog lover who already has two dogs from the SSPCA, visited the kennels and saw the mother dog for the first time. Abi took ‘Mable’ as she became known back home with her, with a view to offering her a temporary home while they continued to look for a new owner. Three months later and Mable and Abi are still together and the arrangement is now permanent. Mable has quickly become part of the family and Abi has called off the search for a new owner.
If it was not for the work undertaken by the SSPCA Abi and Mable would never have found each other. Over the next few months the SSPCA is looking to start construction on a new clinic and kennels to provide some much needed space for the dozens of dogs they receive each month. GVI plans to continue fundraising for the SSPCA and we look forward to bringing you lots more news in the future.
All the best
