Update from SSPCA Vice Chairman

By Sophie Birkett | Head of Operations, Charitable Trust

Dear Supporter,

All animals are sentient beings and a Centre dedicated to their welfare is vital, not only for the animals but for the country as a whole.

Animal Welfare and stray animal control is a pertinent issue in the Seychelles and the SSPCA is committed to making a difference, not only to the mistreated and homeless animals, but also to the positive image of the country.

The SSPCA is currently the only organization attempting to deal with the countries stray population animals that roam the beaches and streets of the Seychelles. What is needed is more than just treatment and care but also education and preventative measures.  Teaching responsible pet ownership is important in helping to reduce the number of unwanted, mistreated  and abandoned animals.

Building of the first Centre for Animal Welfare will commence this year in Providence once we have reached a target for donations and fundraising. This will enable the SSPCA to not only continue with our welfare and sterilization programs but to offer the public dedicated boarding facilities for their animals.  Working with dedicated vets we will also be able to offer hospitalization for sick and injured animals. This service is not currently available in the Seychelles and will make a massive difference.

Thank you for donating and supporting this project, we hope you can see the value in what we are trying to achieve.

All the best

Judith Strashoon

Vice Chairman SSPCA
