Dear Supporter,
2014 was a particularly successful year, with the GVI Curieuse staff and volunteers managing to fundraise close to $1000 from two charity events! Both events were huge successes not only in terms of the money that was raised, but also in terms of the amount of fun that was had by all who were involved.
In March we ran our first event called ‘Curieuse Monopoly’ - a real life version of the board game set on our beautiful tropical island. Volunteers and staff were split into 4 teams and had to compete in tasks, challenges and questions at various locations around the island. They could earn (and lose) cash, properties or move places up the rankings based on how well they completed the tasks, and winning the overall challenge depended on cash, properties owned, and a final Pub Quiz round. The group were able to fundraise loads from this one event thanks to very generous donations from people all around the world.
In August, our second event was organised, this time it was ‘Curieuse Crystal Maze’ - an updated version of the popular 1990s TV show. Three teams competed with one another in various tasks (Mental, Physical, Skill) at differing locations around the island with the aim to complete the challenge and win ‘Curieuse Crystals’. Each ‘Curieuse Crystal’ bought the team 5 seconds in ‘The Curieuse Tent’ to collect as many silver tokens (avoiding the paper ones) as possible, ultimately leading us to an overall winner. Again, the fundraising target was easily broken with very generous donations from friends, family members and kind people from all over the globe.
Both events were huge successes, and have meant that we are able to continue to support SPPCA as best we can. We will be using the funds raised from 2014 to purchase vital drugs and equipment for the SSPCA ‘Sterilisation Kits’ that are used during their very popular Sterilisation Programme Clinics. These take place on Mahe and Praslin island at various times of the year and are supported by volunteer veterinary staff from overseas and from within the Seychelles.
The GVI staff and volunteers are all very proud and happy to continue to work with such a brilliant organisation and to continue to contribute as best we can to their amazing and unique work. We hope that our excellent fundraising efforts can continue throughout 2015 with more exciting, fun and successful fundraising events.
All the best
GVI Seychelles
