Updates on the Sterilization Clinic

By Alan | GVI Curieuse Base Manager

Dear Supporters,

The GVI Curieuse Charitable Trust partnership with the Seychelles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) is about to take a major step forward with the culmination of a long period of fundraising.

We have been putting plans in place for a mass sterlization clinic for a number of months now and for a number of reasons it has been a slow and luborious process.

Dealing with the complexities and regulations surrounding purchasing controlled medicines from abroad is a tortuous process, but eventually following a directed and sustained campaign the medicines are finally in the possession of the SSPCA on Mahe. They were ordered and delivered from South Africa as we could not get them locally in the quanties that we needed.

The sterilisation clinic is intended to target 100 animals, and it is a challenge in itself organising such a large program in an island state. There are many personnel need to be involved, ranging from vets to anaesthetists to vet technicians, to the people making the travel arrangements, and even to the staff at the airline and the ferry company! This is tricky from a coordiantion point of view and made even tricker as the SSPCA is largely a volunteer run organisation and many people have other commitments and projects that they are involved in.

The event had been planned to take place on neighbouring Praslin island on the 21st of May, however a cog came loose at the last minute and it was not possible to hold the event on that day. It has now been re-scheduled for the 4th of June. So we hope to bring you positive news at the next update!

The staff and volunteers here at GVI Curieuse are all looking forward to working with SSPCA and getting hands-on involved in such a worthwhile animal welfare project in a couple of weeks time.

Thank you for your generous support to this project.

With Gratitude,

GVI Seychelles
