Dear Supporters,
Since 2015 our GVI Seychelles, Curieuse Island staff have been working hard to raise money for the SSPCA and we have been able to achieve so much!
Fundraising Highlights
All of our fundraising efforts were focused on raising enough money so that we could purchase medicines and supplies for the SSPCA so that they can conduct their annual sterilisation clinics. These clinics are offered free of charge to anyone who cannot afford to get their animals sterilised.
During 2015 we hosted an Amazing Race around Curieuse Island where we saw 3 teams competing in various challenges and tasks. Later in the year, we went Trekking for Treasure, a conservation-themed treasure hunt. The events were both great successes and we managed to raise over £550 and a huge amount of awareness about the SSPCA and the work that they do.
Project Achievements
Due to the complexities and regulations surrounding purchasing controlled medicines from abroad, there were many delays in the planning of the sterilisation clinic. After much time-consuming organisation, the medicines were finally in the possession of the SSPCA on Mahe. The sterilisation clinic was intended to target 100 animals. It was a challenge in itself to organise a programme of this size in an island state. It needed many personnel to be involved, including vets, anaesthetists, vet technicians, the people making the travel arrangements, and even the airline and ferry company staff. The event had originally been planned to take place on neighbouring Praslin Island on the 21 May, however, at the last minute the plans had to change and it was re-scheduled for the 4 June.
The event finally took place as planned in June and was a huge success.
All the staff and volunteers had a great day assisting with the sterilisation clinic and were really able to make a difference. The clinic was open to members of the local community, who could bring their animals free of charge to be neutered.
Remaining Funds
At the end of 2016, we have decided to bring our partnership with the SSPCA to an end. We have sufficient funds to help them facilitate another sterilisation clinic during 2017 and we look forward to assisting with this event where and how we can. For news of this clinic, you can check back on our main page, Support and Invest in The GVI Trust.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of this project over the years.
With Gratitude,
GVI Seychelles
