Emay had dreamed of traveling around Europe during the summer of 2018 for years. He saved enough money for two months of travel and his employer promised him he would have his job back as an administrative assistant at a law firm when he returned.
Emay was staying in a hostel in France when he was physically attacked, gaged and raped by two men in one of the hostle bathrooms. He believes he was targeted because he was gay and black.
He was found by another hostle resident and taken to the hospital. Emay called us and we were able to provide French language translation, funds for medical treatment and a night in a safe hotel.
Emay decided to continue his travels. We are providing ongoing counseling and having Emay check in with us on a daily basis. He is traumatized by the attack, but determined to complete his trip as planned.
Thank you for helping LGBTQ youth like Emay who experience violence abroad. The Pathways Team.
