You Helped Vander!

By Paula Lucas | Founder

For Vander, a gay American man living and working in Spain, a violent sexual assault shattered his sense of safety and left deep emotional wounds. During the attack, he was able to escape before the assault was fully carried out, but the trauma of the experience left him struggling with fear, anxiety, and the overwhelming feeling of navigating the aftermath alone.

In the days that followed, the physical danger had passed, but the emotional impact remained. Like many survivors, Vander faced sleepless nights, intrusive memories, and uncertainty about how to move forward. The effects of violence often linger long after the immediate crisis ends, and healing can be a long and difficult journey.

Through the support of compassionate donors, Pathways was able to stand beside Vander during this vulnerable time. Rather than facing his recovery in isolation, Vander received emotional support, counseling resources, and ongoing encouragement as he processed the trauma and began to rebuild a sense of security and hope.

Recovery is rarely linear. There were moments of fear and discouragement, but having someone to walk alongside him made an immeasurable difference. Knowing that he was believed, valued, and worthy of care helped transform a season of despair into one marked by resilience and healing.

Today, Vander continues to move forward with renewed confidence and the knowledge that he does not have to carry the burden of his attack alone. The support he received reminded him that surviving violence is only the beginning; true healing requires compassion, community, and the opportunity to reclaim one's life.

Your generosity made that possible. Because of faithful supporters, a survivor who once felt isolated and overwhelmed found not only practical resources, but also hope and human connection. Your support demonstrated that healing extends beyond immediate crises and that every person deserves dignity, safety, and the chance to recover after trauma.

Thank you for helping Pathways provide compassionate care to survivors when they need it most. Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is not simply rescue, but the assurance that no one has to heal alone.

Warmly, The Pathway's Team
