When Jo contacted us she was unsure of what to do. She was recognized as the mother of Ivan in the USA but her partner was the birth mother. In the USA she would have equal rights but she had no idea about Albania. Their partnership wasn't even registered.
Jo was the working American Expatriate abroad and her wife was taking care of Ivan. But her wife's drinking and abuse was too much to take and Jo feared for Ivan's safety as well as her own.
We helped Jo understand what her options were, arranged legal consultation in Albania and the USA, so she could understand any legal obstacles she may face.
After accessing all of her options, Jo decided to ask her company to re-assign her back to the USA so she could return to a place where she had a better chance of escaping abuse.
That strategy worked. Jo and Ivan are living separately from her abusive wife and they have found a supportive community.
