When Lila contracted us at the beginning of the summer she didn't know what to do. She and her partner had lived in a foreign county for several years and every year the abuse became worse and worse.
It wasn't just the physical violence that Lila couldn't take anymore, it was the emotional abuse, the name calling and the insults. She didn't think she could take one more day of it.
Lila wanted to come back home to the USA, but she was also getting so close to obtaining permanent residency in France. Something that was important to her.
Over time we continued to provide emotional support to Lila, provided her with resources and let her know potential options and outcomes. She still had a lot of love for her abusive partner and needed to work through her decision carefully.
Lila rented a room in a house in a small village in France away from her abusive partner. She has decided she will stay in France until she obtains her residency, then she will split her tie between the USA and France.
Lila told us that with us supporting her, she has a good safety plan in place and she knows she can contact us anytime for further support. Her now x-partner is looking for her but she feels safe and secure.
Because of your belief in our mission, we are able to support LGBTQ victims like Lila.
Thank you!
