Vann has always loved travel and cooking. In the spring of this year a relative of his unfortunately passed away, but left Vann some money. He decided to take six months off to travel in Europe and Asia. A dream come true.
He planned his travels around regional cuisines, taking cooking classes along the way. He met people from around the world and was embracing his new found inspirations.
Vann was staying in a hostel and came home late one night. There were several men hanging around in the street, apparently waiting to harrass someone. They demanded Vann's wallet and phone. When he refused they called him a faggot and physically attacked him.
Luckily, another man staying at the hostle was also returning and intervened. The perpetrators ran but not before Vann had sustained some injuries and an attempted rape.
Vann made a police report and sought medical treatment for his injuries. We have been providing him with emotional support and connected him to LGBTQ and sexual assault resources.
We have also been helping him with safety planning for the rest of his trip, which he has decided to continue despite the attack.
We will continue to be available for Vann as he completes his journey.
We want to thank you for making it possible for us to be support for LGBTQ victims abroad.
