Breaking the Chains of Exploitation

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Donor,

Education plays a crucial role in the lives of slum children, offering a pathway to empowerment and breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation. Education has been proven to be a key to escaping the cycle of poverty across the world. Education helps build a stronger start in life, laying a foundation for lifelong learning. However, despite Indian law guaranteeing free education for children from 6-14 years of age, many barriers prevent slum children from accessing good quality education.

El Shaddai has always been on the frontline of helping underprivileged children in transforming their lives and offering them hope and an opportunity for a brighter future. We have opened schools in Goa and Karnataka reaching out to 950+ children who come regularly to school from poor families, streets and from remote villages. Through education, these children will be able to acquire the academic achievements they need to interpret life situations, develop critical thinking skills, and avoid social insecurity. El Shaddai Schools bridge the gap in formal education and opportunities for underprivileged children by providing basic literacy and numeracy skills. A total of 20 slum schools operate in Goa where our outreach workers and volunteers strive to provide holistic education and life skills support.

We have an inspiring story of a girl named Simran (name changed) who belonged to a family struggling to make ends meet, and the cycle of poverty just seemed unbreakable for her. However, she was determined to change her fate through the power of education.

She used to sell balloons with her father on the streets to make ends meet and often gazed at the school children passing by and observed how well they spoke. She dreamt of changing her life and doing something more. Our outreach workers reached out to her one day and her joy knew no bounds. She went with our team to our shelter and was so happy to find a place where she could learn and explore new things. She is now all grown up and presently teaching in one of our schools. She feels that she too wants to help more children like her and provide them wings to fly.

Her journey from poverty to success through education ignited a flame of hope in the hearts of many, proving that with determination, hard work, and access to education, anyone can break free from the shackles of poverty. We have been able to reach out to 656,462 children in Goa and other states. All this has been achieved only with your support and love. Your donations have changed the lives of many and given hope for a new beginning. We the El Shaddai family thank you for this heartfelt gesture and our eternally grateful for your help.

With Gratitude,

Sincerely

El Shaddai family!
