Opening doors through education

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Patron,

Greetings from El Shaddai and we bring to you our latest report on  “Education can end exploitation of 1000 children”.

Education is a basic human right, an investment for the future peace and prosperity of our world.

Education can protect entire generations of at-risk communities from cycles of poverty. The opportunity to go to school not only opens more and new vocational opportunities, increases earning potential, improves health outcomes and promotes girl’s rights, but for the most vulnerable children education can be the difference between freedom and lifelong exploitation.

Education can end exploitation by empowering individuals with knowledge of their rights, providing skills for better economic opportunities, and breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty. By improving access to quality schooling and making it an attractive alternative to work, education reduces vulnerability to exploitative practices like child labor and trafficking.

To give children their basic need, El Shaddai opened formal and non-formal schools.  El Shaddai plays a crucial role in education by promoting accessibility and quality for marginalized communities, addressing barriers like poverty and gender discrimination. Along with academics, El Shaddai offers vocational training, skill development, nutrition programs, health services and community awareness programs to support holistic growth and empower children for a better future.

Currently El Shaddai is running 19 slum schools in Goa and over 400 children attend the same.

We have a beautiful story of two siblings Rani and Rajiv (names changed).  They were found begging on the streets of Panjim, while their mother sold toys to make a living. An outreach worker of El Shaddai found these children and brought them to the Panjim shelter and then taken to the El Shaddai Homes. They are attending our schools and are now able to read and write and when asked what is they would like to do in future, their answer is to become a teacher.

El Shaddai focuses on holistic development beyond academics, offering skills training and emotional support that help children like these and others like them overcome hardships and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

We extend our gratitude to you all and thank you for helping us in our mission in providing education to the underprivileged communities and changing futures to a better one.

With Gratitude

Sincerely

El Shaddai Family
