Summary

We are fundraising to buy a bigger bus to ferry Makomborero students. The bus is always on the go whether it is doing school runs, aiding us in our community projects, outings & camps - we literally can't live without a bus! Currently we squeeze 17 students in a small Nissan Caravan, which was donated to us 5 years ago & is 15 years old. It has served us well but we would like to have a bus which could fit a larger number of students in and is not as old! We need your help!

Challenge

17 Makomborero students are housed at the Resource Centre and need to be ferried to school everyday during school term. The Nissan Caravan Minibus is an old 2003 model which now has a fuel pump primer that has become obsolete. Spare parts are becoming tricky to source. A typical day for our minibus starts at 6:15am (manually have to pump the diesel to get it started) leaving at 6:30am and often only ending it's day at 7.30pm. Fuel consumption is very high due to it being an older vehicle.

Solution

A new bus will prove more fuel efficient and reliable - reducing petrol que time (due to the current fuel shortages), repairs and maintenance. We would like to purchase a Toyota Quantum minibuses with a capacity of 18 seats or a slightly bigger bu,s if funds permit. As new safety regulations come into play in Zimbabwe our current minibus will not be able to operate. A bigger, newer vehicle will enable us to transport our students safely and efficiently.

Long-Term Impact

Makomborero is working in 6 areas in the community. The bus will provide the much needed mobility for both students, staff and volunteers. 5 areas we work in need transport to effectively reach the target beneficiaries that are in the surrounding communities. We are able to reach 100s of students and impact the lives of 1000s with better transportation!
