Big 5 Schools Mid-Year Report

By Carlien Mulder | Project Coordinator

The Big 5 Schools Collective aims to instill a love and respect for nature in children through interactive classes and immersive experiences. As part of this ongoing initiative, we have continued to engage young minds with educational activities and trips to the neighboring game reserve. This report highlights the achievements and impact of the program in the first half of 2024.

Program Overview

Objectives

The primary objectives of the Nature Sensitization Program are:

  1. To educate children about the natural environment and wildlife conservation.
  2. To provide hands-on learning experiences through field trips to a game reserve.
  3. To inspire a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards nature among the younger generation.

Activities and Achievements

Educational Classes

So far in 2024, we have conducted educational classes for 100 children. These classes have been designed to be both informative and engaging, utilizing various interactive methods such as puppets and shadow box theatre. These creative tools have been instrumental in capturing the children's attention and conveying important messages about wildlife and conservation in an entertaining and memorable way.

Field Trips to the Game Reserve

In addition to classroom education, we have organized 10 trips to the neighboring game reserve, each involving 10 children. These trips provide the children with a firsthand experience of wildlife and natural habitats, reinforcing the lessons learned in class.

Nutritional Support

Understanding the importance of nutrition in learning and overall well-being, we have provided 100 lunches to the participating children.

We are so pleased with the progress and impact of the Big 5 Schools Program so far in 2024. The trajectory has set a strong foundation for the continued success and growth of the program. We look forward to building on this momentum and inspiring even more young minds to become stewards of the natural world!

We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors for their generous support. Without it, our vital projects such as this one would not be possible.
