A Mother’s Choice. A Nurse’s Training. A Child’s Life.
Late one night, a young mother named Mrs. Phong faced an impossible choice.
Her baby, Lai, had stopped nursing and stopped sucking on his bottle. His cry was weak. His small body burned with fever. Red spots spread across his skin.
She was full of fear. The hospital was miles away. The road was dark. She was so scared.
But she remembered—there was a newly trained nurse at the small village clinic just a few kilometers from their home.
Clutching her son tightly, Ms. Phong rode through the night on her motor scooter, praying she was doing the right thing.
At the clinic, the nurse acted quickly and calmly. Using skills learned through proper advanced training. She recognized the signs of Dengue Fever, a serious illness spread by mosquitoes. She began treatment at once for hydration and fever control. She closely watched his breathing patterns.
Because of that nurse’s training, Lai received help in time before the fever became life threatening. And as his fever lifted. He began to move and open his eyes, and even ‘smacked’ his lips. Mrs. Phong was able to give him a few sucks of milk. Mrs. Phong also breathed a sign of relief. And as the sun started to rise in the sky, the hopes for a good outcome also rose.
Dengue fever is not spread from person to person. It is spread by mosquitoes, which thrive in standing water after floods and storms. In villages like Lai’s, early recognition and simple, practical care can mean the difference between life and loss.
Lai survived his high fever, and the infection Dengue Fever can cause. Not because of expensive equipment. But because a nurse knew what to look for and what to do next.
This is why MEDRIX exists.
