“Hello Friend, My Name is Nam and this is what happened to me. I’m 7 years old, and I’m just learning how to write, but I want to tell you, my story.
I was playing outside when my ears began to hurt, my face was bumpy and even my feet itched. Yuck. I was so sweaty. My mother took one look at me when I got into the house and gasped. I think she did not like how I looked or was scared. She told me we were going to the rural clinic to see what the doctor thinks.
It was so bumpy that I could hardly hold onto my mom as we rode to the clinic on the family moped.
I’m not sure what happened after we got to the clinic. My mom told me I had a seizure…whatever that is.
Mom told me the doctor knew just what to do and how to get my temperature much lower. She said the doctor and the nurse at the rural clinic had taken special classes at the big hospital, on how to find out what is making kids like me sick. I didn’t have to take a long trip to the hospital. I don’t think I could have held onto the scooter to make it to the big hospital in the city. It’s a long way. She said the doctor and the nurse ‘saved my life’. I guess this means I can play with my friends again after I get better. That made me feel weird and loved. I guess I got back home about 3 sunrises after I got to the clinic. I still have some ‘funny’ bumps on my chest and my legs, and it hurts in my mouth when I try to eat. But mom said she’ll make some yummy soup and all I need to do is swallow it. I can skip chewing for now. I’m home! “Yeah”.
The story above is a great example of MEDRIX’ supported classes in diagnostics for accurate and timely diagnosis of children’s illness where sophisticated laboratories and medical specialists are not available. Over 45,758 suspected cases of measles were detected in Vietnam this past year. Timely diagnostics in rural areas assist in saving lives and giving hope at clinics in areas. You too can be a part of Nam’s story. A donation through GlobalGiving to MEDRIX will be the life saving ticket for many children. We thank you for your donation.
PS: “I’m sorry I can’t send you a picture of me…I don’t have a phone camera and my skin is still bumpy”. Nam
