Dear Friends,
Today, February 24, marks 3 years since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. On this difficult day, we thank you for helping children receive life-saving medical care, especially when their hospitals come under attack.
When a Russian missile struck Okhmatdyt Hospital, it was a devastating blow. Yet, despite the destruction, the doctors resumed treating children in the less-affected areas of the hospital over time, while the most severely damaged sections were secured for winter, with restoration planned for spring.
However, the attack left many gaps. Years of effort to equip one of Ukraine’s leading children’s hospitals were undone in an instant. Thanks to supporters like you, some essential medical equipment has already been replaced, but significant needs remain.
One of these needs is an ophthalmic system that was damaged in the strike. This equipment is crucial for delicate eye surgeries related to trauma, cancer, or congenital conditions. Without it, children who could potentially have their sight preserved risk losing it forever. Your support can change that.
Your contributions also help fill shortages of medical supplies in the intensive care unit, where over 900 children fight for their lives yearly. Among them is 7-year-old Yasia from Odesa Oblast, the girl in the picture (name chaged for privacy reasons). She has a severe autoimmune disease and is preparing for a bone marrow transplant. While receiving treatment at Okhmatdyt, she’s staying at our Family House Dacha.
Your generosity is doing more than rebuilding what was destroyed. It’s making sure children get the urgent care they need today and the hope they deserve for tomorrow. Thank you!
