Dear Friends,
At Kids Club, we celebrate things that many people might take for granted.
A birthday.
A child reading their first words.
A volunteer returning for another year.
A teacher who quietly changes lives every single day.
Over the past few months, we have been reminded that these moments deserve to be celebrated.
Celebrating Riza
One of the most special days this quarter was celebrating the 25th birthday of Riza, one of our very first Kids Club students.
Our team secretly planned a surprise party filled with decorations, cake, music, dancing, and plenty of laughter. But perhaps the greatest surprise came from far beyond Siargao.
Friends, supporters, and volunteers from around the world sent birthday greetings, creating a beautiful collection of messages just for Riza. Watching her smile as she realised how many people were celebrating her was something none of us will ever forget.
For many people, birthdays are expected. For some of our children and young adults with disabilities, simply feeling seen and celebrated can be life-changing.
That day reminded us that Kids Club is much more than a place to learn—it is a place where every person belongs.
Celebrating Learning
Learning has continued to flourish at Kids Club.
During May and June, our Summer School welcomed children almost every day for reading, mathematics, creative activities, games, and outdoor learning. It was wonderful to see so many children choosing to spend part of their school holiday learning with us.
One of our students, who has ADHD, never had the opportunity to attend elementary school. Through patient one-on-one support at Kids Club, he has now learned to read and write. Today, he enjoys learning so much that when classes finish, he often asks if he can stay a little longer.
Another student, who is being raised by her father, once avoided reading aloud and rarely participated in class. Today she confidently raises her hand, volunteers to read, and happily joins classroom discussions.
These moments remind us that progress isn’t always measured by grades. Sometimes it begins with confidence.
Celebrating the People Behind the Magic
This quarter, we also celebrated someone who has dedicated countless hours to helping children grow.
Our Kids Club manager, Ate Beng.
Every day she arrives with patience, creativity, and an endless belief in every child who walks through our gates. Whether she is teaching, comforting a child, preparing activities, or simply offering a warm hug, she quietly changes lives.
To thank her, the children, volunteers, and her fellow team members organised a surprise celebration filled with heartfelt messages and appreciation.
Seeing her surrounded by so much love reminded us that the people who dedicate their lives to lifting others up deserve to be celebrated too.
Learning From Around the World
We were also incredibly grateful to welcome volunteers from Austria, France, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
Each brought new ideas, teaching styles, and joyful energy into our classrooms.
A special thank you goes to Zoe from the United Kingdom, who returned for her second year at Kids Club. As an early childhood specialist, she worked alongside our local team to strengthen the way we support children with different learning needs.
Together, we introduced visual daily routines, individual whiteboards, communication boards, and other non-verbal ways for children to express themselves and understand their daily activities. These simple additions have made our learning environment calmer, more predictable, and even more inclusive.
The greatest gift Zoe left behind wasn’t only her time with the children—it was the knowledge she shared with our teachers, which will continue benefiting children for years to come.
Looking Ahead
Our dreams continue to grow alongside the children.
Over the coming months, we hope to install a small solar system so Kids Club can stay open during power outages and even offer afternoon and evening activities. We also hope to welcome another teacher, expand our playground, and continue filling our shelves with books and learning materials that inspire every child who walks through our gates.
Thank You
Every birthday celebrated.
Every new friendship.
Every child who discovers the confidence to read.
Every smile on the playground.
These moments happen because of people like you.
Thank you for believing that every child deserves not only an education, but also joy, friendship, and a place where they truly belong.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Sanne Sevig
