Summary

At this moment, 3.7 million persons are internally displaced (IDP) within Ukraine. After two years of responding with safe housing solutions for the displaced within and beyond Ukraine, All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) is launching an urgent volunteer-powered program to help the City of Uzhhorod in Western Ukraine support its IDP residents by providing critical repairs and comfort upgrades to housing where 500 long-term displaced individuals currently live in deteriorating dormitories.

Challenge

The need for safe long-term housing options for IDP's in Uzhhorod is large and apparent. An assessment of living conditions for the displaced there found that the Uzhhorod University dormitories were in the worst condition, and we determined that it was a place where we could make a big difference. Of the 500 IDPs in residence, almost all are long-termers, coming from the occupied territories or the front lines, or whose homes were destroyed elsewhere. Most have nothing to go back to.

Solution

From March-May 2024, Phase I of our Safe Housing for Ukrainian IDP's project will deliver updates to 15 dormitory rooms - housing for up to 6 people in each - with mold removal, fresh paint, new electrics, upgraded communal bathrooms and kitchen facilities and updated communal space to conduct engagement activities supporting new and existing psychosocial efforts. Together, we can provide a sense of home, community and comfort for vulnerable Ukrainians who need it most. Will you join us?

Long-Term Impact

Our immediate impact will reach up to 90 IDP residents with upgraded living conditions in long-term housing with improved access to inclusive psychosocial engagement activities. Our, funding-dependent, long-term goal is to reach up to 240 lDP residents with the same dignified, stable housing and support while continuing to help Uzhhorod strengthen its capacity to provide for the long-term safety, security, health and resilience of its vulnerable IDP residents, and its community at large.
