Dear Friends,
Our Community Canteens continue to be vibrant hubs of food, friendship, and support, but they are also busier than ever. Over the past few months, we’ve seen record numbers of people coming through our doors, reflecting the growing need across South London. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to keep welcoming everyone who comes to us, making sure no one is left behind.
As the hot summer turns towards a crips Autumn our thoughts turn to our guests facing increased bills due to the upcoming winter energy hike.
Our Fuel Bank project has been invaluable, providing a lifeline for households struggling to keep the lights on and the heating running. We know this need will only increase, both from repeat guests and from new people coming to our doors for the first time. With that in mind, we are committed to making our Canteens places where people can find relief before their situation becomes a crisis. By offering warm spaces, friendly faces, and delicious meals, alongside vital support like fuel vouchers and health checks, our Canteens are helping families not only survive but regain some stability and dignity in very difficult times.
Canteen Highlights
50 Canteen sessions held across our sites.
1216 guests welcomed into safe, friendly spaces.
1,400kg of food rescued and turned into healthy meals.
Fuel bank support: 38 vouchers distributed, totalling £1,340, helping households keep the lights and heating on.
New partnerships: Working with Community Southwark & Healthwatch Southwark, we hosted free health checks at one of our Canteens. Over 30 people attended, with 25 receiving vital health screenings. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re delighted that the nurses will now be joining us every two months.
Why This Matters
For many of our guests, the Canteens are more than a meal, they’re a place to connect, to access practical support, and to feel part of a community. As the cost-of-living crisis continues, our Canteens are often the difference between isolation and belonging, hunger and nourishment, cold and warmth.
Preparing for Winter
With colder months on the horizon, we know the challenges will only increase. Rising food prices and energy bills are hitting families hard, and the demand for our services is higher than ever. Keeping our Canteen doors open has never been more vital.
Thank You
Your support makes this possible. Every donation helps us serve hot meals, reduce food waste, and provide wraparound support to those who need it most. Together, we are not only feeding people but also enriching lives with dignity and friendship.
With gratitude,
The Be Enriched Team
