As temperatures drop and fuel bills rise, our Community Canteens have supported people at a scale we have never seen before.
We’ve delivered 60 canteen sessions, welcoming 2,000 people through our doors. Attendance has been consistently high, reflecting the growing need across South London as more households face food insecurity, rising fuel costs and social isolation. Many of the people we support are coming to us because they simply have nowhere else to turn.
Despite these challenges, our canteens continue to be places of warmth, dignity and connection. Alongside serving nutritious, home-cooked meals, we’ve worked hard to keep spirits high during the colder months. With support from Sercon, we hosted a Bingo lunch helping create joyful moments and a sense of togetherness for guests who may otherwise feel isolated.
Reducing Waste, Feeding Communities
A core part of our work is ensuring good food doesn’t go to waste. Thanks to our brilliant surplus food partners, City Harvest, Dons Local Action Group and Neighbourly, we’ve diverted large quantities of high-quality food from landfill and turned it into thousands of nourishing meals.
Keeping Homes Warm
We also know that food insecurity doesn’t exist in isolation. Through our partnership with The Fuel Bank, we distributed £1,957 worth of fuel vouchers, helping guests keep their homes warm during the coldest months. For many, this support has been critical in preventing the impossible choice between heating and eating.
Looking Ahead: Winter & Christmas
As winter continues, our Community Canteens will increasingly act as warm spaces, offering people somewhere safe to spend time, eat well and feel welcome. Over the festive period, we’ll also be hosting special Christmas meals, creating a place of celebration and companionship for people who might otherwise spend Christmas alone.
Thank You and How You Can Help
None of this work would be possible without the generosity of our supporters. Your donations help us keep our doors open, our kitchens running, and our communities connected.
As demand continues to rise, your continued support will help us:
Run regular community canteens as warm, welcoming spaces
Serve nutritious meals made from rescued surplus food
Provide practical support like fuel vouchers during winter
Ensure no one has to face the festive season alone
If you’re able to donate, share our work, or volunteer your time t, it would make a real difference to the months ahead. Thank you for standing with us, and for helping turn food into connection, dignity and care.
