Summary

Research* shows that 3 out of 4 children are unable to attend school regularly due to hunger and malnutrition. Since 2017, Foundations Pabellon con Arepa and Oportunidad y Futuro have partnered to provide children with daily meals at school pantries in La Vega, one of the poorest sectors of Caracas, Venezuela. Your contributions will provide daily meals to over 800 children. This will significantly decrease drop-out rate and keep children in school. *Encuesta Condiciones de Vida 2017- UCAB

Challenge

Due to high inflationary pressures and rapid deteriorating economic conditions in Venezuela, school pantries in poor neighborhoods are unable to keep up with continuous grocery price increases. The result is that children may not receive a meal while at school and school drop-out is rising. For most of these children, their school meals are the only chance to eat during the day.

Solution

Your donation provides funds needed to purchase groceries and cook daily meals at school pantries (e.g. Escuela Canaima, Pre-schools Cacique Maturin and Juana La Avanzadora) and deliver full daily meals to 800 children in schools across La Vega (one of the poorest sectors in Caracas, Venezuela). For example, your contribution can help solve the problem as follows: $7 feeds a child for a month (Full breakfast and lunch) and $70 feeds one child for the school year.

Long-Term Impact

This program helps keep over 800 children from La Vega sector in the school system. Once children graduate from high school, they can apply for a college scholarship with Fundacion Oportunidad y Futuro (FOF) and break the poverty cycle.
