According to a recent estimate by the Human Sciences Resource Center, South Africa is home to approximately 200,000 street homeless people, a significant portion of the nation's population of 53.5 million (Rule-Groenewald et al., 2015). Members of the street community come from a variety of backgrounds, and this group is quite diverse in many ways. Queen Laura Foundation is feeding more than 300 homeless people daily in South Africa. We need your support to continue feeding these homeless people
SAFSC said 53% of the country did not have enough food. It's estimated that 14 million people go to bed hungry each night. Oxfam, an international organisation working to find solutions to poverty, reports that 10% of the South African population live in extreme poverty; on less than $0.96 per day. At 25,5 %, the country's unemployment rate is one of the highest in the world. The soaring food prices worsened the situation, as 23% are homeless and cannot afford a meal.
We have launched "Feed the Hungry in South Africa" in Mamelodi. Mamelodi is located on the north-eastern outskirts of South Africa's capital, Pretoria. Life in Mamelodi is marked by high levels of poverty. There is no running water in people's homes; instead, many families share one public faucet. Garbage collection and electricity are non-existent in the informal settlements. 60% of the Mamelodi population live in extreme poverty. These project will feed 300 people every day in South Africa.
14 million people go to bed hungry in South Africa. Today, our "Feed the Hungry in South Africa" want to make South Africa a better place for all. This is the core reason we provide a community-based programme for the local population who are homeless and hungry that cannot afford a meal. We ensure they receive not just a meal but adequate nutrition meal every day.
