Dear Supporters,
There is no doubt that if the 270+ day scholars did not receive their daily lunch, they would not be attending school at all. The parents knowing that their children will be getting a healthy and nutritious lunch each day is even more of a draw card than education these days!
The crises is never ending in Zimbabwe - Not only has the country now run out of US dollars, but even the “bond” notes (a government creation) are scarcely available, as traders are selling them to Zimbabweans working outside the country and wanting to bring cash back to their families. Sadly, there is no end in sight to these problems.
With food prices skyrocketing in Zimbabwe, we are very fortunate that Mealie Meal is still being supplied by National Foods but a new arrangement has been made with a wholesaler in Bulawayo to supply us in bulk with some items such as Soy chunks, Sugar beans, Relish, Cooking oil and Salt. Vegetables such as Onions, Cabbages and Tomatoes are also being bought on a regular basis to provide a nutritious lunch for all. Included in our expenses are the wages of the two Woman who provide these cooked meals everyday to the kids of Marula School - Lunch time wouldnt be possible without them!
