We're A Little Short

By Bookey | Local Community Volunteer

Our Lovely Supporters, Alumni, Donors & Fundraisers,

We're one very amazing and growing community that have given so many children in Zimbabwe a full belly and smile every day of the year! I am so proud to be able to support this project with your help too!

Today is a very warm Wednesday here in the beautiful farming community of Marula. We don't have many people in the village just us locals and one little shop. We also don't see many cars go past it's very quiet!

Please forgive the slightly late update; it has been an incredibly busy start to the year. Between the lingering heat and our mission to source local stationery donations for the school, we’ve had our hands full.

Looking back, we had a wonderful end to 2025. Because of your kindness during the holidays, we were able to send the children home with food parcels. It was the talk of our community! It provided such a vital safety net for our families while the school doors were closed.

In January, we used the $1,245.48 raised from your donations to fully restock our shelves. It was a great start to 2026, but I have to be candid with you about where we stand today: our supplies are now running very low.

The last three months have unfortunately seen the lowest fundraising totals in the history of this project. It’s a difficult position to be in, especially because buying in bulk is the only way to make our budget stretch. Right now, I am about $840 short of what we need to do a proper bulk shop.

I’m heading into Bulawayo city next week to buy whatever I can with the funds we have left to keep us going. After that, I’ll be focusing heavily on fundraising. We simply cannot let these children down—there are over 280 students who rely on us for their daily meal, and seeing their faces every morning reminds me why this work is so important.

You are such amazing givers. Our students and our community truly need your support right now to get through this lean period. Thank you for being there for us when things get tough.

With heartfelt thanks,

Bookey x
