Summary

Join Bands,Not Gangs is a Non-Profit from Cape Town,South Africa, that acts as a supply chain for musical instruments. We use donated instruments to start programs that can help at-risk youth avoid joining gangs. In order to gain momentum, we would like to produce content that we hope can go viral. Our 2020 Project is to create 3 singles with music videos and a documentary, sharing our work, students and story with the world! Great content will make collecting instruments in 2021 much easier.

Challenge

Our main challenge is to create awareness, so that people will donate instruments. To create awareness, we must create content. We are midway through creating 3 music videos and testimonials. We also have 2 years' worth of footage that needs to be professionally edited and assembled. Our most pressing need is to complete our content and for that we need funds. Secondly, we need to hire 3 staff members to get the operational side ready for 2021. Our main challenge is thus currently funding.

Solution

By creating a campaign of viral content that includes footage of our journey so far, we believe we can make people fall in love with our mission of collecting 1 million instruments for the youth of South Africa. The better content we put out, the more people can see our work, and the more instruments might get donated! So we hope that through this crowdfunding project, we can finance the completion of all our content as well as hire critical staff for behind the scenes operational work.

Long-Term Impact

In 2021 we hope to bring in enough instruments off the back of our viral campaign, to be able to donate instruments and help set up music programs in every school (22) in Delft, Cape Town, and continue our work in Scottsdene. For now we are fundraising for our content creation. From 2021, we will use this Global Giving platform to fundraise for NEW instruments. Over the long-term, we wish to raise up a new generation of role models in Cape Town and beyond, getting kids from gangs to bands!
