Update from the Schools
The scholarship children at the Yacoobi Private Schools in Herat and Kabul receive a comprehensive education. They are encouraged to express themselves through art, prose, poetry and public speaking. The goal of the education at the schools is to produce well rounded individuals who are equipped mentally and emotionally for the modern world.
Art is an important subject in the curriculum. Children love the art classes whether painting, model making or drawing. Painting is an important cultural tradition in Afghanistan especially the specialized form of miniature painting and ornate calligraphy. AIL works to introduce children to the wealth of cultural history of their country including traditional arts and crafts. Art is self-expression but it also develops children’s observation and focus skills, appreciation for shade and light and color. Staff believe engaging in art also helps children with mental health as it is restful for them in a busy day and in a society that has so much strife and violence.
Thank you for your support!
