Winter is at the door, and many children and pregnant women of Chapang community will survive without warm cloths and shortage of food. The marginalized indigenous communities have a high prevalence of early marriage and early child birth. Lack of care, nutrition or medical assistance is very common in this communities. By simply distributing the maternal and child care packages and increase awareness on available services can ensure safety and comfort of pregnant women, new mother & newborn.
Chepang people have low level of awareness on their health condition, risk of diseases, and utilization of health services when needed. There is a desperate need for warm clothes in the winter months, and food to consume. Deprived of basic needs with poor access to health facilities makes Chepang people more vulnerable during pregnancy and child birth.
We will distribute a maternal & child care packages to pregnant & new mother which contain Maternity dresses, slippers, blanket, pad, mattress, soap, baby wipes, napkins, oil, baby cloth, mosquito net, a packets of dried fruits/ nuts, crackers, juice, rice, ghee, pulses and grains, folic acid and iron tablet, calcium. We will also provide orientation on prenatal checkup, institutional delivery and postnatal checkup and encourage family members on the care of pregnant women and new mother.
These simple interventions will help Chepang women regain their life during pregnancy and after delivery. This will help women and family members to increase their awareness on utilization of health services, encourage people to receive appropriate support when needed and adapt healthier lifestyles during pregnancy and after delivery.
