Dear donors,
Thank you for your concern for the education and safety of girls in Kakuma, Kenya.
Many young girls in this area face long, difficult walks to school, unsafe travel, and emotional stress caused by poverty and displacement. Lack of transport, insufficient menstrual hygiene products, and fear of harassment make it hard for them to stay in class. Without support, these barriers increase the risk of dropping out or early marriage, limiting their future opportunities.
This project will provide 500 girls with bicycles, reusable sanitary pads, school materials, and one year of school fees. Trained local mentors will also offer basic mental health support and peer education on staying safe from harassment. These interventions aim to help girls attend school regularly, focus on learning, and feel secure in their daily environment.
We are currently carrying out a needs assessment to determine which of these supports (bicycles or school fees), are most urgently needed first. While all the items are essential, we hope that in future reports, with additional support, we can launch the initial phase of the project.
