Kenyan farmers especially from Embu County have faced many challenges in day to day lives including; lack of fuelwood for cooking leading to encroaching forest looking for fuelwood, low milk production due to lack of livestock fodder, food insecurity caused by prolonged use of chemical fertilizers on their farms which makes the soil acidic.Through your help, we are going to support 550 farmers plant different beneficial trees on their farms.
The Embu community has faced many challenges which include; over reliance of natural forest to get forest products, low milk production due to lack of fodder leaves , food insecurity caused by depleted soil as a result of prolonged use of chemical fertilizers and lack of fuelwood for cooking.
By supporting this project, 550 community members, comprised of 4,200 people will be able to continue growing their trees for fuelwood, fodder leaves, improve their soil fertility through planting of nitrogen fixing trees which will revitalize the depleted soils and increase food crops production and food security.
There is an incredible long-term impact on these families. By supplying them with different types of trees to plant on their farms. They will also be able to establish nurseries as long term solution so as to continue growing trees to plant on their farms. The revitalized soil will improve soil fertility and increase food crop production which will enable them to grow out of extreme poverty and hunger.
