Thank you so much for your generous contributions to help children undergoing treatment in wartime Ukraine!
Among the departments we have begun supporting after the beginning of the full-scale invasion is the burn unit of the Unbroken Center in Lviv. This vital facility, the largest in Western Ukraine, specializes in treating burns and their long-term consequences. Sadly, such injuries have become more frequent due to missile and drone attacks, and disruptions in the electricity supply.
Many children from frontline cities and towns, who suffered burns before the war, were unable to continue receiving appropriate treatment due to their hospitals either ceasing operations or being completely destroyed. This was the situation for Yelyzaveta from Izium, Kharkiv Oblast. She accidentally spilled boiling water on herself, resulting in burns to her neck, chest, and arms. Liza received initial treatment in her hometown. However, with the onset of the war, she was forced to leave Izium—a city that has seen occupation, de-occupation, and immense destruction.
In Lviv, at the Unbroken Center, Yelyzaveta underwent skin plastic surgery and has since humorously dubbed herself the "Cassiopeia Girl," inspired by the constellation-like pattern of her scars. Beyond surgery, her recovery includes ongoing laser scar treatments to manage pain from the growing scars. In the picture, you can see Liza with Doctor Halyna from the Unbroken Center, who has been constantly supporting the girl throughout her journey to recovery.
Thanks to your support, over 100 children received timely and necessary treatment at the burn unit in 2023. Thank you for standing with Ukraine!
