Imagine a little boy undergoing cancer treatment who looks up to his daddy, a volunteer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His daddy, a hero with the 'For the Defense of Kyiv' medal, inspires the boy to keep fighting for his life. Tragically, just days after a rare visit home, the news arrives: his father has been killed.
In Ukraine, children don’t have to imagine this reality. This is the story of Kyrylo, a 6-year-old currently receiving high-dose chemotherapy at the hospital in Kyiv.
A year and a half ago, Kyrylo was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma. After a successful initial treatment, he suffered a relapse. Following a second surgery, the doctors recommended the family spend a week at the Dacha Family House to regain strength before the next round of chemotherapy.
At the Dacha, Kyrylo’s appetite returned, and he rediscovered his love for play. His mother watched happily as he busied himself in the playroom with toy tools—a screwdriver, a wrench, and pliers—just like the ones his father used at home.
Back at the hospital, Kyrylo faced severe side effects from the chemo. His condition was critical, but thanks to the efforts of the doctors and the availability of medical supplies, he began to get better. Now, amidst the immense personal loss brought by the Russian aggression, the boy’s mother has to find strength to continue fighting for her son’s life.
Your support makes a difference for children like Kyrylo, affected by the war and in need of treatment in Ukraine. Thank you for your commitment.
