About 8000 kids in Russia received cochlear implants from the state. But additional rehabilitation in special center is essential to finalize the treatment.
Today every 1-2 kids from 1000 is affected by the 4th stage sensorineural hearing loss. All of them are receiving cochlear implants (complex operation) paid by the state budget. About 8000 kids have been provided with cochlear implants. But the operation itself does not resolve the problem, postoperative rehabilitation is essential. Parents often do not have enough funds or knowledge, and hope that implant can resolve the problem. So kids often stay deaf not receiving rehabilitation in time.
The funds raised by the projects with be spent to pay for rehabilitation in specialized medical center (https://www.tosha-ci.ru/company/about-center/) Each patient is provided with complex rehabilitation including: practices with speech therapist, psychologist, neurologist and other specialists; free sound field audiometry; music classes; art therapy; play therapy; consultations for parents. The earlier kids receive help, the more likely they will take part in mainstream society.
After 3-5 rehabilitation courses and constant parents support (normally takes 1-3 years) about 70% of kids become fully recovered and can take part in mainstream society. Children are able to live normal life, hear and talk with friends and parents, attend standard kindergarten and school, be self-reliant. This project can help 20 kids (about $2500 needed for full rehabilitation).
