Autumn has passed and we would like to share what had been done over the period from September through to November.
We would also like to share good news about children's improving health and about their families. Over this autumn Mamu unija supported families raising children with oncological diseases. The funds were used for purchasing non-covered medicines, essential nursing care items and for families' trips and fuel costs to and from hospitals, children's birthdays and their biggest dreams.Support had been granted to cover Laurynas, Domas and Maksimilijanas's treatment in Switzerland. We also helped to cover Bogdan's treatment expences. This boy came from Ukraine due to unfavourable treatment conditions. We would like to express our gratitude to GlobalGiving donors who contributed to this support 105 USD .
Over the period of three months Maksimilijanas flew to Switzerland once, Laurynas and Domas - twice. Travel and treatment expences were covered by a sum of 2,680 USD
For Bogdan's from Ukraine treatment we had allocated 20,000 USD.
A heartfelt message from Domas's, who has been fighting eye cancer for almost 2 years, mum explains everything. Let us share our joy that we are almost at the finish line. Each of you who donates to our organisation, contributes to these success stories. You are helping children and families. Thank you! <3
"I managed not to lose hope when there was a real probability that it was going to happen. On the contrary, I became stronger and this little man made me fight. He is a strong fighter. Two years ago we were packing our bags for our first trip and my heart filled with joy at having been given such a chance to save his eye and receive treatment and further monitoring in Switzerland. I already lost count of Domukas's flights and anesthesias. Soon it will only be a memory as the treatment is no longer applied. All challenges are already behind and the treating professor promised that the next month's examination is going to be the last one, and we will be able to stay in Lithuanian doctors' care," Domas's mam Sandra said.
Laurynas also has some good news! He's going to stay in Lithuanian doctors' care too. After yesterday's examination in Switzerland the porfessor assured that the tumor is no longer active and no new formations were found. Another piece of great news is that his left eyesight improved twofold!!! Covering his healthy eye proved to be highly effective and these procedures will have to be continued for around five more years.
Laurynas's mum is happy: "if two years ago we would had given up Laurynas would have been able to keep only one of his eyes. However thanks to the doctors' work and the support from all of you, today Laurynas is a healthy kid enjoying his life. He was not alone in this hard fight. He had a whole army with him. We are eternally grateful to all and each of you."
Over the above three-month period we had been regularly distributing essential nursing care items such as diapers - 60 pcs., wetwipes - 31 pcs. and mats - 39 pcs. We also distributed other hygiene care items such as creams - 8 pcs., shower gels and shampoos - 11 pcs.
Families in Vilnius University Santaros Children’s Hospital and in Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinic received our support and we organised events for the kids with professional educational activities. We also baked and enjoyed pizzas in the hospital!
To make the upcoming Christmas more festive we donated almost 200 kg of oranges and persimonns.
We congratulated 40 children on their birthdays. A birthday for children is indeed one of the most important events of the year!
We would like to express our gratitude to all GlobalGiving donors, as your contribution makes our little patients' days much brighter and happier!
