HELP LOCAL WOMEN USE CLEAN ENERGY COOKING STOVES

Summary

This project promotes the use of traditional cooking systems that prevent severe negative effects on health, especially among women and children, and on the environment. This is a quarterly report of the program which is was designed to reduce health hazards among local women and children through the promotion of the use of clean energy cooking stoves among 800 households in Kibuku District, Eastern Uganda. The project constructs 3 clean energy cooking stoves to each target household.

Achievements:

1. 4 community resource persons were trained in making energy cook stoves
2. 50 local leaders were mobilized and sensitized to promote the use of traditional clean cook stoves
3. 5 households were facilitated to construct 3 energy saving cook stoves each

Challenges

1. The organization is constrained with financial support to facilitate mass production of cook stoves
2. Most of the local women lack adequate capacity to provide local materials
3. There is high expectations from the community ie the free services

Recommendation:

The project is too significant that it reduces contraction of infections caused by use of poor cooking methods. In addition, the project limits excessive cut down of tree for firewood and charcoal. This is therefore a request for partners to support this vila project.
