We are grateful to you, one of 41 donors from around the world, for enabling PSYDEH to announce that our project can be deactivated. Your generous donation has allowed us to achieve our goals and create a meaningful impact. Let us share!

Project Goals
We help Mexico's rural women and their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic by combining short-term direct assistance with ground-up empowerment initiatives to pave the way for long-term progress. The key components of our GlobalGiving project are to provide: (1) trustworthy COVID-19 information, (2) socioeconomic empowerment, and (3) training for sustainable resource management and food security. With these goals, we support our women partners to thrive during and after these kinds of challenges.

Project Impact
Thanks to your donation, PSYDEH was able to provide reliable COVID-19 information in Spanish and local languages as well as prevention tools like masks during the pandemic. We also worked with local women and their communities on immediate needed aid built around their demands with the production of “Cuando Amanece,” a vital component of our COVID-19 programming in 2021 (and the foundation for current 2022 programming).

Cuando Amanece was designed for women partners' groups, offering training and support to enable them to create their own community impact projects during the pandemic.Through this initiative, we directly impacted and benefited 164 women organized into 23 collectives, representing 34 communities. Indirectly, this initiative benefited 820 individuals, considering the average family size of 5 in the areas we serve. These 23 collectives chose to use economic seed funding and project development support, including on how to manage food security, to produce 28 projects. These projects ranged from promoting local cultural traditions, generating income through handicrafts and food stalls, to producing essential items for personal use or sale, such as egg production, livestock raising, and vegetable gardening.

Cuando Amanece empowered women to come together during a very difficult time, identify local challenges, and collaboratively develop solutions to make tangible economic and social impact. It also fostered a network of women leaders excited to engage in solidarity and information and communications technology programming in 2022. This work’s outcomes and lessons are the basis for ongoing replicable economic solidarity Red Sierra Madre and renewable energy and digital inclusion Tech for All programming.

Testimony
"For me the economic resource has been a great help because my husband died in the pandemic and with that and with the work, I was able to help myself and also help other women, who would have thought that in my situation I could help myself and other women ''. - Ermi from the community of Ejido Tlazintla, Acaxochitlán.

What's next?
Now that our project has succeeded, GlobalGiving (GG) explains that this must be our last report. Yet, the impact you help us to create here will only grow.

  • If you want to keep learning how we use your generous donation to make a sustainable impact, we encourage you to sign up for the Red Sierra Madre newsletter (bottom of this page).
  • You can also consider investing in our GG Red Sierra Madre project, "Build Cooperatives with Indigenous Women in Mexico," including and especially around GG's July Bonus Day on July 12, when GG matches all donations up to USD 1000. We will be in touch on this opportunity as July draws closer!
