It has been an exciting couple of months for the project “Help more South African children achieve in Maths”. Both schools, Jamaica Way Primary and Mzamomhle Primary, who are supported by this project have had a productive year thus far. The two schools combined have completed 83% of their weekly exercises for the first half of the year, as well as all their assessments.
We asked a couple of learners why they love doing their maths exercises online and the learners responded by saying that they love doing their maths online because it helps them to improve their results. The fact that learners are able to get immediate feedback after they have completed an exercise helps them to see where they have made mistakes and how to correct it.
“I like the way it teaches me and it helps me to improve my scores. The Green Shoots helps you to understand your work and to improve your marks.” – Grade 5 learner at Mzamomhle Primary
“I like the fact that when you have already submitted and you have got your score it tells you where you have gone wrong so that you can see your mistakes and try to improve your maths.” – Grade 4 learner at Jamaica Way Primary
Many learners also responded by saying that by doing their maths exercises online they now feel more confident in their maths.
“I like the brain quests the most because it is more confident than online maths.” – Grade 4 learner at Jamaica Way Primary
“It challenges your ability to do maths. It makes you feel more confident in doing maths. It makes you love maths. The more you do it the better you become.” – Grade 6 learner at Mzamomhle Primary
