Dear Donors,
Across northern Nigeria, families are facing several emergencies at the same time.
Conflict continues to force people from their homes. Food prices remain difficult for families with little or no income. Children are facing malnutrition, communities are dealing with disease outbreaks, and humanitarian organizations are struggling to serve everyone who needs help.
What makes the situation even more worrying is that assistance is shrinking while the number of people needing help continues to rise.
In July 2026, the World Food Programme reported that more than 17 million people across nine conflict-affected states in northern Nigeria were experiencing crisis, emergency or catastrophic levels of hunger. This was almost two million more people than earlier projections. In Borno State alone, more than three million people were acutely food insecure.
Funding shortages are also affecting services that families once depended on. WFP reported that food assistance in some displacement camps had been suspended because of funding shortages. Across Nigeria, close to 35 million people are now facing acute food insecurity, while 2.3 million people remain displaced in the northeast.
Children are among those facing the greatest danger. UNICEF estimates that around 3 million children in Nigeria will require treatment for severe wasting in 2026. Funding reductions have also limited the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide treatment and other services through health facilities.
This is why we created Help Nigeria in Crisis: Conflict, Hunger & Aid Cuts. Through this project we plan to provide food, clean drinking water, medicines, healthcare, hygiene supplies and other relief to families affected by conflict and displacement. Mobile health teams are also planned for communities where reaching a health facility is difficult.
Priority will be given to people facing greater hardship, including children, pregnant women, older people and people living with disabilities.
If this appeal speaks to you, please share this project on social media and with your friends, family and colleagues. You can also become an individual fundraiser and invite people in your network to support families caught between conflict, hunger and declining humanitarian assistance.
When other sources of help are disappearing, a new helping hand can matter even more.
With gratitude,
Sipho D. Mfanekiso
