Helping Street-Hawking Children Return to School

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting this vital project to help street-hawking children in Northern Nigeria return to school. Your support gives hope to children who have spent their days on the streets instead of in classrooms.

Across many northern communities, poverty forces families to withdraw their children from school because they cannot afford fees, uniforms, or books. As a result, thousands of children hawk goods on busy streets, where they face accidents, abuse, and exploitation. Studies show that children who remain out of school are more likely to fall into crime, including theft and recruitment into violent groups.

This project aims to return 1,000 children to school by covering school fees, uniforms, books, and meals. It also works with parents, schools, and local leaders to discourage child hawking and promote education as a safer path to the future.

In our earlier report, three selected students were expected to begin school but could not meet admission requirements due to delays from their parents. As schools resume in January 2026, we are hopeful they will be enrolled in new schools within the first week of resumption.

Thank you for believing in these children and their future.

With thanks,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
