Over the past months, UPFN has continued providing essential prenatal and reproductive health services to women and girls at our Women’s Health Center in Niamey. Despite the limitations of our aging ultrasound machine, our dedicated midwives and healthcare staff have ensured continuous care for expectant mothers, offering prenatal consultations, nutritional counseling, and reproductive health education. Since our last update, dozens of women have benefited from prenatal follow-ups, and dignity kits containing hygiene and menstrual supplies have been distributed to vulnerable girls.
One of the women we recently supported, Aïcha (name changed for privacy), came to our center during her second pregnancy. During her first pregnancy, she had no access to ultrasound screening and experienced complications that put her life at risk. This time, thanks to the services provided at UPFN, she received proper monitoring, nutritional advice, and regular check-ups. Although our current equipment is outdated, early screening allowed our team to detect warning signs and provide timely care. Today, she is safely preparing for childbirth with greater confidence and peace of mind.
Renewing our ultrasound equipment remains a critical priority. Reliable and modern medical tools will significantly improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce pregnancy-related complications, and enhance the quality of care for more than 2,400 women and girls annually. Beyond medical services, our holistic approach—combining healthcare, leadership mentoring, literacy, and entrepreneurship training—continues to empower women to become stronger decision-makers within their families and communities.
We remain deeply grateful for your support, which allows us to continue safeguarding women’s health and dignity in Niger.
