Rabies poses a vast threat to the people of Afghanistan and Nowzad proudly boasts the first and only official animal shelter in Afghanistan. Even without the large scale funding we need, Nowzad is determined to prevent instances of canine and feline rabies, through education, vaccination and awareness. Nowzad will not only apply this project to Kabul, but other provinces in Afghanistan where rabies is more prolific. Protecting not only the animal population of Afghanistan, but the people too.
Rabies is a horrific and deadly disease that not only affects the stray dog and cat population of Afghanistan, but the people too. Just last year there was a 6679 suspected rabies cases in just one Government funded hospital alone, most of the cases involved children. Whilst there are attempts being made to reduce rabies in the stray dog population in the capital city of Kabul, rabies is a disease that has spread throughout the entire country of Afghanistan. We are working to change that.
- Nowzad will visit schools, orphanages and other facilities and organizations throughout Afghanistan to educate in the dangers of rabies - The Nowzad Conrad Lewis Clinic in Afghanistan offers FREE rabies vaccinations, as well as free spay and neuters to all Afghan owned pets, reducing the instances of rabies and unwanted dogs or cats - Where possible, Nowzad will carry out humane TNVR programs throughout Afghanistan - Poster and leaflet campaigns throughout cities and highly populated areas
Nowzad is working to reduce rabies, not only in the stray dog population, but the cat and cattle populations too. Being the only official Animal Welfare Shelter in Afghanistan, Nowzad has a long term goal to improve animal welfare in Afghanistan not only today, but for future generations to come. Nowzad's permanent clinic and shelter will provide rabies awareness, education and vaccinations to work towards a significant reduction in rabies cases and deaths for future generations.
