We are absolutely delighted to officially launch our new competency-based Getting Started today! Age Action’s Getting Started is a free digital literacy programme, helping older people to get online, or use their smart device with confidence. Age Action’s Getting Started is the first competency-based digital training for older people in Ireland. It uses the EU’s DigComp framework as the foundation blocks of the curriculum, building the capacity of older people to engage with technology safely. Every older learner is matched with their own volunteer tutor to work with them over five weeks on the skills they want to develop, at a pace that suits them.
You might ask what is different about this Getting Started, and realistically it is very similar to our traditional GS programme. We wanted to hang on to everything that works: Getting Started still provides one-to-one classes for older people looking to obtain or improve their digital skills. There are two main differences, this Getting Started has a slightly different curriculum that is built around five key competency areas, and, there is a completely new assessment component where learners will be able to see how far they have come as a result of the course.
