Reversing Deforestation and Global Warming

Dear Project Supporters,

In Sierra Leone, there is deforestation taking place across the country making the community prone to disasters.  Heavy rain has led to several unfortunate mudslides in the country.   

Your ongoing support is helping reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone. By restoring vegetation and the forest, we are helping to combat global warming and helping to reduce runoff water from the hills. The trees will help to reduce landslides and rockslides that have resulted in the loss of life. Reforestation is essential for the overall health and quality of life in the community.  

On the 4^th of October 2019,  photos were taken of the trees planted at the Grafton Highway (Bathurst village), to see the progress of the project. In the photos, one can see that the trees are growing well, although this project might take years to be fully effective, but along the way, it would reduce the consequences of the climate crisis; protecting soil from erosion, and reducing the risk of flooding. 

 Your on-going support is much appreciated as we continue to follow the steps recommended by the local Environmental Protection Agency for reforestation.   We encourage you to consider starting a monthly recurring donation here.  Even a few dollars a month will go a long way.  Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.

The 13th Sustainable Development Goal is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.  In Sierra Leone, the serious and accelerating rate of deforestation is not only threatening biodiversity and ecosystem balance in the country but is also contributing to global climate change. In Freetown, the run-off water from the surrounding hills results in flooding and loss of property each year.

Your ongoing support is helping reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  With your support, we have taken an active role in reversing deforestation by planting over 200 seedlings in Freetown, Sierra Leone in the past two years. By restoring vegetation and the forest, we are helping to combat global warming and helping to reduce runoff water from the hills. The trees will help to reduce landslides and rockslides that have resulted in the loss of life. Reforestation is essential for the overall health and quality of life in the community.
