Reversing Deforestation and Global Warming

Dear Project Supporters,

We greatly appreciate your ongoing support that is helping reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  As a nation, Sierra Leone is prone to natural disasters especially due to deforestation.  It's a slow process, but reforestation is crucial and we are happy to show that the seedlings planted in June 2018 at the Bathurst –Grafton Highway are growing.  You can see in the below photos taken this past week, that the trees are growing and that over 80% of trees planted survived the winter and they are all fresh and green. It is expected that the trees will grow even more when the rainy season starts in June.

While reforestation in Sierra Leone will continue to be a long-term endeavor due to the extent of the deforestation, it is necessary.  Your on-going support is much appreciated as we continue to follow the steps recommended by the local Environmental Protection Agency.   We encourage you to consider starting a monthly recurring donation here.  Even a few dollars a month will go a long way.  Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.

Your ongoing support is continuing to help reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone.     It is a slow process, but reforestation is crucial.  In African Development’s article, “The Land, Agriculture, and Forestry Nexus At the Heart of African Sustainability”, they say,  "How Africa manages its land, agriculture, and forestry is of critical importance to the health of its people, its economy and the world's climate." 

The article also states, "With 60% of the continent's trade derived from agricultural commodities, it is not surprising that Africa is increasingly recognizing the need for robust adaptation programs and climate-smart agriculture. Alongside this, the forests of Africa are receiving increasing attention around the world, and for good reason. Representing 16% of the world's forest cover at 600 million hectares; they are precious habitats of economic resources for African people, 70% of whom rely on them for energy among other vital forms of livelihood support."
