It has been over 7 months since Ho Chi Minh city lifted the strict lockdown over the city. People get vaccinated. Children are back to schools. Streets are crowded again. However, the poor families still struggle to find a way back to “normal life” like before the pandemic, as they do not have enough resources to cope with the situation, while being more expose to risks than others because of the issues related to density, living conditions or limited access to basic health services and informality in employment. Many family members in our project went from “having a job” status to being laid-off or even unemployed during and after Covid-19 lockdown. With the main sources of income coming from odd jobs that have no contract and health insurance; they already were more vulnerable than any other group.
Even before the stay at home order in last Augusr, most of them had depended on borrowing money form unofficial sources to maintain their livelihood. All of the families have at least one child going to school. However, their financial uncertainty leads to other risks including school dropouts, especially when the government have implemented online learning as the main way for studying. Education originally form a crucial pathway for empowerment of disadvantaged children, now become a factor that makes them more dis-empowered.
We believe that enabling poor families to become more resilient is key to stabilize their life in long term, as well as an effective solution help them overcome their current situation.
We are grateful for your engagement in this project and look forward to having your support in the coming time.
All the best,
Alliance Anti Trafic Vietnam
