New schools and alliances join public Montesorri

By Anelis Torres | Project Leader

The main objective of the Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE) is to achieve excellent academic performance in children and youth, reduce poverty, violence and school dropout rates. Our model emphasizes the importance of a favorable environment for child development, hence the importance of the integration of families in the school life of their children and the sustainable development of communities so that they are safe, accessible and free of poverty.

The public Montessori model in PR continues to grow, and for this new school year three (3) public schools are integrated; serving a total of 49 Montessori schools that serve low poverty populations on the island. In addition, with the addition of these schools we welcome another municipality of our country, Manatí.

Meanwhile, another project was born to strengthen the school transformation model: The New Montessori Community School, to address the socioemotional needs of our school communities.  In general terms, the project will be focused on:

  • the growth of the Montessori academic program
  • integrating projects that will enrich the students' experience at the school
  • developing with the school community the collective work structures and shared governance methodology
  • strengthening the Family House model

This project will be implemented in 16 schools in 14 municipalities.

We believe that through an excellent education for everyone "School by School, a better Puerto Rico".
